In brief

HydraFacial is a multi-step treatment that uses a vortex-tipped handpiece to simultaneously cleanse, exfoliate, and infuse the skin with targeted serums in a single appointment. It addresses congestion, surface texture, dehydration, and early pigmentation without any downtime, making it suitable for every skin type and appropriate at any time of year. Sessions run to forty-five to sixty minutes and produce an immediately visible improvement in skin clarity and radiance. It is available by appointment at Skin Aesthetics by Krystian, 15 Old Bridge Close, Bursledon, Southampton SO31 8AX.

What it is

Three steps, delivered simultaneously.

HydraFacial uses a proprietary vortex-tip handpiece that creates a spiral of suction and fluid simultaneously. As the tip moves across the skin, it lifts debris, keratin, and sebaceous congestion from the pore while infusing a stream of cleansing and nourishing solution into the follicular opening. This dual action, extraction and infusion happening at the same moment, is what distinguishes it from a conventional facial or a microdermabrasion treatment: the skin is not simply stripped; it is cleaned and fed in the same pass.

The treatment runs across three defined phases. The first cleanses and exfoliates, removing the surface barrier of dead skin cells that prevents active ingredients from reaching the dermis. The second phase uses a mild glycolic and salicylic solution to loosen debris within the pore and perform a gentle extraction without manual pressure. The third delivers a concentrated serum, typically including hyaluronic acid, peptides, and antioxidants, at a depth where it can be absorbed rather than sitting on the surface and evaporating.

No downtime is not a marketing line. It is a clinical fact.

Because HydraFacial does not ablate the skin surface, cause controlled injury, or introduce any substance via injection, the recovery profile is genuinely zero. Mild transient redness may be present for one to two hours; it resolves without intervention. Patients routinely return to work, social engagements, or photography immediately. This is relevant to treatment planning: it can be scheduled ahead of an event, used between more intensive procedures, or placed at any point in a treatment course without disrupting other timelines.

HydraFacial sits at the maintenance and foundation end of the aesthetic treatment menu. It is not the tool for significant laxity, deep structural volume loss, or persistent pigmentation that has not responded to topical treatment. It is highly appropriate as a starting point for patients new to aesthetic treatment, as a monthly or six-weekly maintenance protocol for those already on a fuller programme, and as a preparatory step before more intensive procedures such as a chemical peel or injectable treatment.

The considered version

Three things worth understanding first.

HydraFacial is straightforward, but the right protocol depends on what you are treating and what else you are doing.

i.

Active skin conditions

HydraFacial is not appropriate over areas of active rosacea flare, open acne lesions, or broken skin. Krystian will assess the skin at the start of every session and adjust the protocol accordingly, which may include avoiding particular areas or modifying the infusion solution used.

ii.

Single session versus course

A single session produces an immediate improvement in brightness and hydration that typically lasts seven to ten days. A course of three sessions, spaced three to four weeks apart, produces progressive improvement in congestion, skin texture, and uniformity of tone that persists beyond the course.

iii.

Complementary positioning

HydraFacial works well alongside injectable skin-quality treatments. Clearing congestion and improving cellular turnover at the surface makes the tissue a better environment for products delivered below it. Krystian will advise on sequencing where multiple treatments are being considered.

The appointment

Fifty considered minutes, from arrival to the mirror.

The treatment follows a defined sequence. Each step prepares the skin for the one that follows.

00:00

Arrival and skin read

Krystian reviews current skin concerns and any changes since the last appointment. The skin is assessed under light to identify areas of congestion, dehydration, or sensitivity before the protocol is confirmed.

00:10

Cleanse and exfoliation

The first vortex pass removes surface debris and begins breaking down the dead skin cell layer. This phase prepares the follicular opening for the extraction step that follows.

00:20

Extraction and pore clearing

A glycolic and salicylic solution is delivered to loosen congestion within the pore. The vortex suction then clears this without manual pressure, which reduces post-extraction redness and trauma compared with conventional extraction technique.

00:35

Infusion

The selected serum is delivered across the treated area. Standard formulations include hyaluronic acid for hydration, peptides for collagen support, and antioxidants for environmental protection. The serum selection can be adjusted for specific concerns.

Considered questions

The honest version.

The questions every patient is too polite to ask out loud. Read at your pace.

Is there any downtime at all?

No. Some patients notice mild redness for one to two hours immediately after treatment, which resolves on its own. There is no peeling, bruising, or restriction on normal activity. HydraFacial can be performed on the morning of an event without concern.

How often should I have it?

For general maintenance and skin quality, once every four to six weeks is appropriate for most patients. Those with persistent congestion or preparing for a more intensive procedure may benefit from a closer sequence initially. Krystian will recommend an interval based on your skin and your goals at consultation.

Is it suitable for sensitive skin?

Yes. The treatment protocol and infusion solutions can be adjusted for sensitivity. HydraFacial is one of the few clinic treatments where patients with reactive or sensitised skin can proceed without significant modification. Krystian assesses this at the start of every session.

Can I have it alongside other treatments?

In most cases, yes. HydraFacial pairs well with injectable skin-quality treatments and is often used as part of a broader programme. Where a chemical peel or laser treatment is planned, Krystian will advise on sequencing to avoid overlapping active phases.

Risks & contraindications

What we tell you before we begin.

  • Transient rednessMild flushing is common immediately post-treatment and resolves within one to two hours for most patients.
  • SensitivityRarely, patients with particularly reactive skin may experience increased sensitivity for twenty-four hours; applying SPF and avoiding active skincare products for the rest of the day manages this.
  • BreakoutIn a small number of patients with significant congestion, clearing the pore can trigger a short-term purging response in the days following treatment; this is self-resolving.
  • Allergic responseRare; any known sensitivities to skincare ingredients should be flagged before the session so the serum selection can be adjusted.
  • ExclusionsActive rosacea flare, open acne lesions or broken skin in the treatment area, sunburn, or any active viral or bacterial skin infection at the time of appointment.

HydraFacial carries one of the lowest risk profiles in clinical aesthetics; the most common adverse response is a brief period of redness that requires no intervention.
